Our Story

Steve & Joanne Cocking are from Sydney, Australia and launched SetUp2Worship in 2014. Since then, as a ministry they have travelled extensively in the UK, Cambodia, New Zealand, Australia, and most recently the US to serve and minister to worship musicians and the local church. They have also volunteered at events in the UK such as David’s Tent and Big Church Festival and in Australia at Awakening Australia, Presence Conference (C3) and The Gathering (HopeUC). They have been working side of stage at these type of events since 2011.

Steve has been selling, repairing and servicing fretted stringed instruments for nearly half a century in Sydney. He owned a thriving guitar shop (Guitar World) until 2005 where he was well known for his passion to bring out the best sound and playability of each instrument he sold and setup. In 2010, he began a home-based guitar repair service called GuitarScape. This business continues to run side by side with SetUp2Worship, to work with guitarists, bass players and up and coming bands outside of church spheres in Sydney.

As well as repairs and setups, Steve has developed some unique approaches and techniques for adjusting and bringing guitars to their best sound possible.  His passion to pass on his knowledge is evident in each workshop however his credo of “forever the student” remains why his guitar luthiery skills continue to increase and perfect over time.

Joanne has a Masters in Creative Music Therapy and is a qualified high school music teacher. Her training as a teacher and a therapist has assisted her in developing the SetUp2Worship workshops and has also given her the opportunity to work more closely with the owner of each guitar.

Joanne's role in the ministry is to organise bookings, answer emails and develop new ways of teaching guitar luthiery skills. Her ability to restore frets and teach people how to do this is a foundational part of the workshop presentation. Joanne has also developed a 1 day Seminar called "Release the Sound" where she teaches and encourages worshippers to know the Biblical origins of Worship and conducts activations for the attendees to go deeper in their calling and their worship skills.

Joanne enjoys getting to know the people who attend the workshops and sees connection with them as an important part of SetUp2Worship’s core values and beliefs.
